    Smile Mead?!

So, I'm going to a screening of Troll 2 at a buddy's house and when I mentioned bringing refreshments he said he was going to stick to mead. I laughed a little because I thought he was kidding. Then it turns out he was serious! Well, I had a few questions. It turns out they sell mead right down the street in our local liqour store. To be honest I was confused. It was a little like the first time I realized they still make porridge. I thought it was just something you read about in books about orphans or pirates. Guess not. So I guess I'm in for some mead tonight.

    ARRRR, Matey!

Honey bee wine. There are mead makers on the forum if I remember correctly.
    Enjoy.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Mead is the bomb, but the high sugar content means wicked hangovers if you're not careful.

    Re: Mead?!

There is an enormous variety of meads out there.

I would suggest trying one regular classic honey only still (not carbonated) mead just to get the baseline. Those are the hardest ones to make well. The only ingredients are water, honey and yeast. No where to hide mistakes.

Usually the sweeter fruited meads are the more popluar, blueberry and etc. My favorites are the brackens or braggots, mostly honey fermented with malted barley and some hops, mead with some beer in it.

*** on the be careful of the sugar and beware monster hangovers.

    Enjoy

    Re: Mead?!

What kind did you find, and who makes it? There are good meads and ok meads. Just like wine, everyone has some they like and others they don't. It can be sweet, or dry. I have about 21 different kinds in my home brewery. We also sample commercial, of course. There is an international contest in Boulder next month called the Mazer Cup. We'll be there. My wife and I are both certified mead judges, and I plan to judge on my kilt.

Our beer club has a mead section at our beer festival every year. Mead is on the rise. If you don't like what you taste, try another kind. There are so many different kinds.

Let us know what you think of it.

Liquid honey! It was my first wine adventure as a teen.
