hi new here :)
I just got my douglas kilt and I absolutely love it! My pleats are completely sewed together. So if I pin mike kilt it's hard to sit down or walk without ripping it. I guess they sewed it to keep it nice looking. So do I just take out the stitching, thank you so much for your help.

Re: hi new here :)
Heavens yes; the (usually white) basting is just for pressing and travel. It's also ugly, so out it comes. Also, do NOT pin the apron shut; the pin is for decoration only.
Finally, welcome to the Great Rabble!

Re: hi new here :)
Welcome to Xmarks, and please do carefully take out the basting stitches as soon as possible. They are only there to keep everything sorted, during shipping.
Also, always remember never to pin your kilt pin through both aprons- only through the top one. It's dangerous for the health and well-being of your kilt, for several different reasons, to pin the aprons together.

Welcome to XMTS
Usually when they ship a kilt, the pleats are basted closed, so it doesn't arrive looking like chewed up bubble gum. Typically the basting stitches are white or some other color you easily see and remove without causing any damage to your expensive garment. Is this the case with your kilt? If so, then yes, carefully remove those stitches, and kilt on!

Welcome! From another newbie, located in Northumberland in the UK.
Enjoy the kilt! I'm jealous... mine is still "in the post" - gah!
Enjoy the forum too - one of the nicest bunches of people I've met on the web.

Re: hi new here :)
If you have never removed basting stitches, don't panic. It is easy. Only the first ones are knotted. You can carefully undo these with a pair of tweezers (for example). Then all the rest - the vast majority - are "sewn" to simply pull out. Once you reach them just use gentle tugs on the thread to remove them all.
By the way, what kind of Douglas kilt did you get? A picture would be fantastic. I'm in a Clan Douglas family, too. Welcome to the blog.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
