    MacDougall Ancient

Some time ago I was able to purchase through kijiji (the Cdn version of Craigslist) a length of MacDougall Ancient fabric. I had no idea of the length, width or quality of the fabric but it was cheap enough ($50 I think) that I didn't much care. Once received it turned out to be about 4.5 yards of 16 oz. material - not enough to make a tradional knife-pleated kilt but still a great value. Thought about trying to make something myself but with zero experience and now knowing the value of the material, I decided to turn to a pro. Contacted John at Keltoi and he said there was enough to make a box-pleated kilt so I shipped it off to him.

Just received the finished product and could not be more pleased with how it turned out! High quality craftsmanship, excellent communication throughout the process and great care in the packaging and shipping.

Thanks John. Looking forward to wearing it for the first time very soon and of course will post a pic here on X Marks!

First of all, congratulations on the acquisition of your new kilt.

I've seen some of John's work and was very impressed with its quality.

I much prefer the ancient MacDougall to the modern. (I'm related to the MacDougalls through my mother's side of the family and almost always attend the various highland games with my MacDougall kin and help man the clan tent... My own MacDougall kilt is an 8-yard ancient to the sett.)

I've not seen MacDougall ancient as a 4-yard box pleat, so I'm very much looking forward to your photos!

First two are my MacDougall Ancient box pleated from Keltoi. Next two show it next to my MacDougall Modern from MacIsaac. Colours don't quite show up true to life. The red in the Modern is much more "cherry" or "scarlett" and the green a deeper "forest". Love them both!!

Very nice indeed! Looking forward to obtaining a box pleat kilt of my own in a month or two. Thanks for sharing.
