Highland Games Czech Republic

Hi all,

I hope the organiser of Czech Highland Games doesn´t mind that I post here some information about upcoming event this year.

12th Sychrov Highland Games go on from 24th of August to 25th August 2012. This event takes place under the kind patronage of Her Excellency Sian MacLeod,Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Czech Republic. The venue is on the Castle Sychrov, beautiful neogothic castle, located 70 km north from Prague.

Unfortunately, the information in English on the website are relatively scarce now, I hope they will be upgraded during the time. Last year there was admition fee for both days (Friday, Saturday) (ca 450 CZK = 16 GBP = 18 EUR = 24 USD) (or lower just for the main day - Saturday). The link to the event is here:

If you will have some questions, don´t hesitate to ask me, I will try to explain or translate them, although I am not the organiser. For example, this year there will be an attemt to set the record in "Czech book of records" for the highest number of men in kilt These Highland games are full of music events on the main stage, pipers competitions, Scottsh delicacies, whisky tastings, etc.

I would love to come and meet you and see my grandparents homeland, but I do not have the funds or vacation time (new job) to travel. It sounds like a great venue.

This might do rather well. We already have several German and Polish heavyweight athletic competitors taking part in the Highland Games circuit here in Scotland and they might also be interested in taking part in games closer to their homelands.

THe IHGF... International Highland Games Federation, run by famous athletes Ryan Vierra and Francis Brebner, recently signed an agreement with a strongman association in Czechslovakia to put this one. With the very large strength-athletics culture in slovakia, the Athletics part of this should be a real show.

I was able to attend the Games in 2009 and 2010.
The location is indeed very beautiful.
The hospitality of the people I met toward an American, who doesn't speak any Czech, was great.

I'm sorry I won't be able to attend this year, but I look forward to seeing pictures. I hope you will post a lot of them.
