Argyllshire Gathering: Parade from Oban to Mossfield Park

    Greetings,

Whilst researching the present Duke of Argyll a bit further, I stumbled across this relatively short, but interesting video of a parade of pipers leading His Grace the Duke of Argyll from Oban to the games field at Mossfield Park.

The video was shot by Oban Times and is several years old, but the examples of Highland day attire, as well as the mutlitude of piping talent shown (if you look quickly you can spot several piping greats) is wonderful.

I'll say three words..."Lovat Green Balmoral," see if you can figure out what I mean by that as it pertains to the video!

    Enjoy,

    No not quite, Jock!

I was actually referring to the popularity of the Lovat Green colour in the Balmoral bonnets worn by the men beside and behind His Grace the Duke of Argyll...WOW!!! I realise it's not that big a deal, but I have never seen that many Balmorals of that particular colour in one place before, only here and there. Personally, I am fond of the colour and own two Robert Mackie Balmorals in Lovat Green - one diced and the other plain.

    Great guess though Jock!

    Cheers,

Thank you for the clip sir.

I like the chocolate brown balmoral worn with the rust coloured tweed jacket... you don't see many around (chocolate brown balmorals that is, although come to think of it you don't see many rust coloured tweed jackets either... although I actually happen to have one: not to everyone's taste!).

That colour of tweed jacket was extremely popular at one time, and is still worn by quite a few men. I have two in the "MacLean Collection," although they now have become the property of my much thinner sons.

I was thinking the exact same thing! I love the rust coloured jacket too and yes, it is a colour you hardly see.

    Cheers,

I knew that I was on sticky ground when I saw the tartan, but one has to enter into the spirit of these things!

I'm glad they've gone to a good home. I actually have two rust coloured jackets (one a "ginger" Harris tweed kilt jacket and one a light summer saxon jacket) and like them both a great deal. Unfortunately my wife always objects and rolls her eyes when they come out of the cupboard but I persist and she is coming round!
