    Light blue mackie balmoral bonnet

    G'day all,

another bonnet question (my last one I swear!) I have heard some talk about "day" bonnets in light colors, and I saw a picture of a bonnet in a powder blue, not the grayish tone of lovat blue (which I also quite like) I don't think it is sky or saxe blue but i could be wrong, does anyone know where I could get a Robert Mackie in that color, or any pictures of light or "powder" blue bonnets? any information on "day" bonnets? Thank you in advance gentlemen
    Cheers,
    Nick Pratt

Contact Chris at Dunadd Trading...one of our vendors on XMTS. He can get whatever you like. And, he's great with speedy delivery.

I actually have a navy bonnet on the way from Dunadd, eagerly awaiting its arrival. I wasn't aware he could get other colors as the blue isn't on the page. I am also considering ordering an all black balmoral with a matching toorie from dunadd once the navy one arrives. I agree the bonnet was on its way very quickly! Thank you for the sound advice.
    Cheers

Not a Mackie, but I do have an inexpensive sky blue balmoral with red/white dicing that gets exclusively daytime wear, as it is a bit bright for evening wear regardless of what level of dress:

I have a couple Mackie's balmorals from Chris at Dunadd and cannot say enough positive about his service and ability/desire to get you what you want at a good price, as well as the extreme comfort and quality of the Mackies. Buy with confidence.

Thanks for the kind words Nick. This was a few years ago, early in my kiltwearing days, and I think I went a bit overboard on the blues that day, as I know that I would not likely pair the same stuff together today, except maybe on the golf course. I really like the bonnet myself, but the colors are a bit too bold for me in general. I have tended toward the more stealth colors the last couple years.

    Nick,

I have seen the colour blue you are referring to in a Balmoral bonnet, but I am not entirely sure if it was an intentional colour, or perhaps was a darker blue at one point and proceeded to fade after many years of use. His Grace The Duke of Argyll wears a Balmoral in what appears to be a Lovat bluish colour that may have faded quite a bit to a faint, very light blue - at least this is what it looks like to me.

I like the look of His Grace's Balmoral; with the fawn band, fawn and white dicing (more than likely a fawn coloured bow in the back), and distinctive red toorie - his late father wore the same style of bonnet. I am curious if Robert Mackie can produce this colour, or if you can only choose from their 'stock' colours. Hmmm, perhaps an inquiry with Chris at Dunadd is in order...but wait, I only just received a new Balmoral from him a couple of weeks ago. Oh dear! Ha-ha!

Does any of the rabble know more in regards to His Grace's Balmoral?

    Cheers,

Mackies have a myriad of colours other than the stock colours shown on my website, and if they don't have the right colour in stock they make every effort to source the colour, for example a customer requested a kharki balmoral bonnet, sufficient material of the customers desired colour was sourced, so as to meet his demands, they still have enough material available to make a few more bonnets in that colour.
I suspect that the Dukes bonnet was originally lovat blue, but has faded over the years, when I see him or his wife next I will ask him.

That's good to know. Thank you!

That is what I have always though too. I realise that you live in Argyll Chris, but an unexpected visit and knock on the front door of Inveraray Castle is hardly necessary...ha-ha...just kidding!

    Cheers my friend,
