    Your first kilt

Well as I just ordered my first kilt (Done and dusted!) I was wondering what other XMTS members have gone through on their first Jones.

I spent a long time sitting on the fence, but I finally got there! MacDonald Clanranald Modern Colours in 8-yards of 16oz. Whole kit and caboodle. Did anyone say keen?

I'll say "Keen"! Sounds like you did it right the first time. Welcome to the kilted rabble!

Keen means to mourn for the dead. Doesn't it? If so, I did not keen. First, I was excited about my first big purchase. Four hundred US dollars was a pretty penny considering my most expensive kilt up to that day was US$150. Then, I became anxious about messing up the measurements. Thus, the kilt I ordered would be ill-fitting. I actually had my wife measure me again just to assuage my fears. Finally, I got impatient the nearer it got to the estimated arrival date (which the shipping company missed by just one day). It was almost a let-down when the package did arrive because the kilt was exactly what I wanted and pictured in my mind.

Long walks, cold showers and a steady diet of prunes and syrup of figs will usually provide enough diversion to take your mind off anything else.

    Regards

When I ordered my first kilt, I didn't know what "jones" meant! I just waited... and waited. And went to all manner kilt-websites, researching and "over thinking!" Drove my wife crazy with, "look at this!" over and over again. I realized I enjoy wool, and slipped I suspect, into a dopamine high.

I wasn't anxious at all, I knew it would get here when it got here. It helped that it was cold and snowy for most of the wait. And after it got shipped it took less than a week to get over here from Scotland. I had less wait for my kilt once finished than I have had for stuff from California that was in stock.

Mine took the better part of a year to be ready. I got mine from a very busy friend. I learned more about kilts and culture, my family, my limits in terms of patience, anxiety and patience. I carefully trolled ebay and obtained a really nice sporran. Then another. I think I got an additional sgian dubh. I bought my first boxer underpants - in a dark color so as not to shout out about their presence in the event of the inevitable flash. I survived. When told it was ready I put on the boxers, pants and went to my friend. I dropped my pants in her workroom and confirmed it fit. Gave her a hug and still have not gotten used to how nice it feels.
