Newbie looking for advice (with photos)

Hi guys

New to all things kilted!

I've just inherited two kilts, which I took to be the same size, but on closer inspection I see one is longer. But I don't know which looks best! Both seem to fit OK, but there is a fractional difference in length. Could you cast your expert eye over these and see which looks best fitted to you - in accordance with what is the proper length, I mean. Both feel OK to me, but I know one must be more 'correct' than the other.

And yes - I KNOW I do not have the legs for a kilt!!

The general consensus is they should be at or above the knee with above being preferred. Hike them up a little higher on your waist.

I think the second one looks to fit better.

Lastly there is nothing wrong with your legs - they look exactly like mine and I have fantastic legs for a kilt.

It ain't the legs that benefit from wearing a kilt!

The second pic seems right. Can be hard to tell from the camera angle.

As mentioned, try hiking the first one up a bit

Also check where the sewn down part of the pleats ends... My opinion would be that it should be about the widest part of your hips... With below that being open

Congrats on inheritin 2 fine kilts Stevo.
To my eye they both look about right. Anywhere around the knee is considered correct.

I agree with Squeaky on this. As to the legs, get some hose that come up over the knee and fold them over twice. Makes it thicker at the top.

Both would be fine to wear anywhere... just consider wearing the first one slightly higher than the second.

Also, in addition to chunky topped hose, lighter colored hose tend to make your shanks look more robust.

Both look pretty solid. I prefer to have my kilts just at the top, so I think the second looks about right.

I can't really judge due to the angle of the camera. When I take a picture with the subject being someone wearing a kilt, I drop to one knee to avoid too much downward angle, making the kilt look like it's hitting where it is isn't.

That said, I do think both look nice, and I agree that on men, kilts generally look best when they hit right at or even just above the center of the kneecap.
