    Grandfather Mountain Games 2012

A few pics from Saturday... Xmarkers met up at noon for a photo and seemed to draw quite the crowd of photographers. Unfortunately the lady taking our official picture couldn't operate my camera. But there were several other members who have the photo and hopefully will post here soon.

It's about time somebody posted some pics!!! Let's see some more!!!

Can some one please post the pictures of the Ramble doing the Hamish from Saterday ?

Wow. What a time we had at the Games. We arrived on a fine Monday afternoon. After unloading our stuff we walked around and met our fellow campers in the MacVillage area. We missed the opening ceremonies as by that time we were a bit damp from the rain that started late Monday and just kept up so we were huddling around the fire. Forgot about the Xmarks meetup on Friday until too late and arrived just after the pic on Saturday. We met several Xmarkers who were still hanging around when we got there. Sunday was lovely and we enjoyed the parade and listening to the bands until the heavens opened up. We packed up after that cleared off and left the Mountain around 2:30 taking our time as we drove away.
Here's what Friday night looked like.

Fantastic mountain weather! Very reminiscent of another place I am quite familiar with. I love it!

    Cheers,

Several posts were merged into the one above.

Well it looked like you had good Scottish weather for at least part of the day. Wish I could have gone but we had plans in St Augustine. Maybe next year. Have to hold out for the games in Charleston SC.

Seems my post got merged into the first post. I won't repost those pictures, but I have more to add:

    Parade of Tartans

Not sure why there's a knight, but he looks ok.

House of Gordon (Turpin bringing up the rear)

Camping on the Mountain was a lot of fun. The rain did dampen a lot of the activities that we'd hoped to do, but all in all, the daughter was satisfied with our adventure. We didn't get to see the Highland dancing which had been moved into Linville, nor did we get to hike the mountain and walk the swinging bridge. But, we were dry at the campsite and met some wonderful people, ate some fantastic food. I'd love to do it again next year.

Saturday night was the best of the whole week:

The MacVillage area of the campground held a potluck. Turpin provided the Haggis

No blood spilled on this Haggis!

Turpin's such a ham! The crowd loved it and he drew much applause after.

The Guest of Honour. Not sure of his recipe, but I thought it good. My daughter has pronounced it as 'meh.' So, it can't be all bad.

Turpin is the man! That is one supper not to be missed.

Turpin had posted to bring extra tarps on the other thread about GMHG. As I was packing his words of advice echoed in my pea brain and threw another tarp into my car.

I had purchased a new tent that claimed it needed no fly to keep out rain. My first night out was a wet one as that claim didn’t deliver. The next morning I used my extra tarp as a fly and had a dry tent for the remainder of the weekend. Thanks, Turp!

Some great pix, Kiltedjoss! You have a pic of Connell Sanderson, the young bagpiper of Uncle Hammish and the Hooligans. Connell is a member here as well as his Dad, Bill Sanderson known as Tartan Hiker. Shawn Dunham the lead singer is That Celtic Band, here on XMarks.

Here is a vid on their original song, Slainte M'Hath from their latest album, Operators are Standing By.
