Flashes advice

Yet again, another color question.

My wedding is 2 months away and the House of Edgar is making my dark isle kilt.

I am wearing a black argyll jacket and waistcoat. Black hose and a semi dress sporran.

I think I am going to wear a grey ruche tie and am stuck on flashes but may be over thinking.

I have black wool flashes but want some color and thought I should match the tie. Should I custom order silk flashes to match the tie?

Our wedding colors are plum, grey and ivory. I have purple flashes too but not sure they will match the plum.

Should I be concerned about using wool flashes? Perhaps I just need a solid grey that matches the tie?

I think, with the greatest of respect, that you are over-thinking the whole thing, never mind the flashes! It is a wedding for goodness sake, surely you can weave some colour into your outfit? Something for you to consider as you have time. I know matching this that and the other seems to be the direction that you seem to want to go and its is your choice, but--------it seems that this is a North American way of thinking----------- it is really not a way of thinking that many Scots even bother about and amazingly the almost random colour combinations do seem to work quite well!

Thanks for the tip. 80) I do find I need to live a bit on the wild side. I will try to find something outside my comfort zone that goes well.

I must agree with our learned Jock Scot, you are over thinking things a bit.

Why not ask your bride to be, if she has found a source of grosgrain ribbon (say 1 1/2 inches in width) in one of the wedding colors. If she has, ask if you could 'liberate' about 1 yard of one, and make your own flashes for the wedding? Extra points if you can make flashes using ribbons of all three colors, in decreasing widths.

Or, if you can, ask for a small piece of fabric left over from the bridesmaid dresses and make a pair of flashes and pocket square out of it. Cheap, simple, and quick.

US weddings tend to be "matchy-matchy" and flashes are simple to make. Just buy an appropriate length of elastic and stich on a couple of color strips, properly cut. For a couple of bucks you can all be color coordinated. Everyone will be looking at the bride and your hose will get little notice. But you'll get points for doing your bit.
