    Clan Pollock Tartan ID Request

Hello, all. I guess I missed my mark (about six years) since the last post about this clan. If anyone is interested, I just received my kilt today. I opted for the black, which I have not seen before. Since I am new to setts, tartans, etc. would anyone familiar with Pollock or Maxwell, or just kilts in general know what I got. Unfortunately I didnt write down what I ordered in May and now we're mid way through August.

Sorry on the reflection on the light. Here it is:

and here's what the typical Pollock tartan looks like:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I made a newbie mistake and posted in the wrong place, please advise. Thanks!

Also, I am thinking I had ordered the modern. I've never seen anyone else in Clan Pollock with this color. If you see Maxwell or Clan Pollock, you'll see the resemblance, for sure.

Hello. I have Pollocks on my mother's side of the family and have always wanted a kilt in the ancient Pollock tartan. I think that the Dress Black Pollock tartan that you have isn't well known as it is only a year or two old. It is a good looking tartan and you should post some photos of yourself in it.

Thanks, Martin. I was really teetering on the ancient for a long time. I have a piece of fabric that I inherited from my grandparents. Been framed probably since the Pollock tartan was recognized. Then I saw the Dress Black and lost my mind. Hoping that it doesn't upset anyone in the clan (also a newbie to the clan), since I have not seen any photos of anyone wearing one like it yet. That can open the door to a completely different post elsewhere.

Will get someone to take a photo of it soon. Doing the ol' stretchy arm camera phone just isn't hacking it!!

According to the Scottish Tartans Authority the Pollock tartan was registered in 1980... The Maxwell tartan that it is based on goes back to 1842, but then, in all likelihood, it's one of the Sobieski Stuart brothers creations from the Vestiarium Scoticum.

I was thinking Maxwell and Pollock were adapted in the States within a year or two from each other. At least making it a registered one. Could be both in 1980. But I'm far less versed in Maxwell. Thinking since they have been around for so long, something has to unearth that they wore something before the mid 1800's.

Side note - did you see all the photos of Caerlaverock that I took? Probably a good 20-30 of them. Adobe it up!! Feel free to share with Clan Maxwell!!
