Saffron Kilt Ideas
I've sifted through a numbe of articles as well as threads on this forum with regards to Irish Kilts. With my last name the closest thing I could find to a Tartan was three different shades of Red/Burgundy and Yellow for County Monaghan. I currently own a Black Watch Great Kilt and Black Watch Sport Kilt. I'd like to go with something a bit different.
Formal Kilts seem to be standard as to what your dos and don'ts are as well as what the proper attire is.
I have a local Rennaisance Festival coming up. Minus spending hundreds of dollars on a Great Kilt w/fly plaids, etc. etc. etc., I'm seriously considering a Saffron Kilt. From what I've read and Googled, you're either in Piper garb, Military or sporting a standard shirt w/ the Saffron . I want to go down a different route and lose the modern t-shirt and a Kilt look for something a bit closer to a Renn look.
Let me know what you guys think:
1. http://www.stillwaterkilts.com/heavyweightkilts.html
- Saffon Kilt from Stillwater
2. I have a beautiful pair of Black George Boot - Logging Boots that I wear every year.
3. A Portain or a Swordsman Vest (I think) would look great with a Jacobite Ghillie shirt underneath.
4. Maybe Green Hose?
I'm trying to take a modern look and add a bit of renn twist to it. To be honest, I think this color would look great with Brown Boots, Dark Brown Vest, Brown Belt with a Brown Sporran?
Ideas, suggestions?

Sounds good, Jacobite garb is great. The brown vest, belt, and sporran should look good. Just be aware that some authorities on Highland Dress feel that any shoes worn with a kilt should be black.

Hi MacKenna,
If you go to the picture threads, you will find a large thread about Prince Charles. He will quite regularly mix black and brown leather. If he can - you can.

MacKenna, you are going to a Renfaire and from what I have seen on this forum, they have nothing to do with traditional highland civilian dress whatsoever. To me, they appear to be fantasy days where you go to have fun, be entertained and gawk at the various costumes. From photos posted on this forum, I have seen little regard as to what colour goes with what in the variety of costumes. Take the day as what it's meant to be for, fun and fantasy. Use the search funtion on this site and you will find plenty of renfaire pics.
Have a great day when you go

You guys are absolutely right. This I'll have fun with. Next year we're getting married in Scotland so i'm sure i'll have a great number of questions
Does anyone know where i can pickup a real natural(thick woolen) looking Kilt Hose State side? It looks like CDNSushi has a real nice pair. I like it how the coloring is a bit faded out so that it doesn't over take the Saffron. Again, I think for this outfit a black or dark green would be too much.
Color? Lovat, Anc Green?
