    My heart's in the truly highlands

    My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
    My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
    A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
    My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go.

    Here I am at the higher highlands with a couple of deer, at the Jang Chub Ling Tibetan monastery complex near Dehra Dun, India, at the foot of the Mahabharat hills, one of the Himalayan foothill ranges. The tartan is clergy . The Dharma Wheel behind me represents the first teachings of the Buddha, given at the deer park in Sarnath, India, with the two deer listening attentively.

    Quite a few relics of the Raj here. It was in or near Dehra Dun that the British imprisoned Gandhi and other freedom fighters, so there are quite a few monuments to them. There are several sword making concerns, and armor, too, but I don't know about the quality of their goods. Is EN 45 steel sufficient for a sword blade? There is a wonderfully old music store that sells chanters with a good tone, and can get bagpipes. At least two teachers of the pipes are in the city.

    Thanks so much for this post. It's a beautiful photo and as a clergy guy I appreciate the kilt very much. I am remembering you as you journey through the highlands where you are.

    Great photo ... look great with a kilt . Looks like a great view from there too.

    I have fond memories of visiting many Buddhist temples in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia (even Borobudur in Java) - in fact I got married in a Buddhist Temple in Singapore hehe
