    Kilt belt

A little something I've been tinkering with for a while:

The lighting is a bit harsh, but I think you get the idea...

You are rather good at tinkering! I like that belt a lot. Are those hounds on the back panel? I particularly like the buckle; sometimes understated really works best.

    Thanks Lyle1!

Yes, there are opposing hounds on the back. I have the same hounds tattooed on my left arm, so it's sort of a theme thing I guess. I went with the brass ring buckle for a more "functional" look. Also, I wanted to showcase the tooled leather; I figured a showy buckle might detract from that. Now, I'm considering tooling some kilt straps to replace the boring black ones my kilts are sporting right now. Of course, there might be a sporran forthcoming, time permitting...

I'll put up a few better pictures when I get a chance.

That is beautiful ! I can see why you said " tinkering with for a while " that hand tooling can be time consuming and it certainly doesn't look like tinkering ! Well done .

I also like your choice of buckles , whether round or square , whether brass or pewter , that belt is best served with a simple functional buckle . Bravo !

As to the new kilt straps, are you thinking of sticking with the F-B style or of using buckles? I have the same strap you are wearing in your photograph (and possibly the same sporran, but in mixed black and brown leather). I thought about having another strap/belt made in that style for a fur sporran that I bought, but I could not find anyone locally to make it, and then I found a braided belt that I liked. I think a little tooling on a sporran belt would be very nice.

Nicely done! I'd sure like to see some photos of it in better lighting and with better focus. I think you're doing yourself a disservice by calling that "tinkering"!

I like the antiquing on it. That really brings out the pattern.

    Lyle,
I think that flyrod was talking about KILT straps and you're confusing that with SPORRAN straps/belt.
