    Dear AGB,
For a sporran at about the same price point, check out Rkilts "festival sporran". I have one in semi-dress. Whidbey has a review here on xmarks. These sporrans are made in Robert's shop. I think you would be pleased with it. They are very well made with very nice leather (I believe they are available in brown, too). www.rkilts.com

.....for that much money, you have other options that are more "sporran-like"...plus, that strap arrangement sort of limits where your sporran will hang...being able to adjust a sporran on a sporran strap helps to put it in a visually good place and also helps make the wearing more comfortable.

Absolutely, agreed. Go for a better strap. Here's the link for the semi-dress: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-rkilts-76771/

Here's the link for Whidbey's review:

Robert also makes an economy strap as well as more expensive ones.

Thank you for the advice, but I am afraid that you are missing the point. I do not want a traditional sporran, or rather I have one. I really like the idea of a belt pouch for informal gatherings, especially nights at the pub when it is crowded and a sporran chain or hangers may snag someone else's clothing and break. I would hate to lose my sporran, wallet, and keys in such a place or manner. And heaven forbid a broken chain rip my kilt. And I have read the wonderful review by Whidbey.

I know that there are some questions about the historical accuracy of movies like Rob Roy and Braveheart but Rob Roy is where I got this idea. It looks like in this picture that he is wearing a sporran haning directly from his belt sans chain or belt.

My, you must frequent very dangerous and frightening bars! I have never heard of a sporran strap breaking in a bar, nor of a kilt being ripped by a broken chain. You need to clean up your act a bit, sir!
