Highland Weekend at Texas Renaissance Festival

    Last Saturday, (11/17) I ventured out once again to the Texas Renaissance Festival for their Highland Fling weekend. It was a very nice day for it, temps started out in the upper 40s and leveled out at about 75, and it was nice and sunny all day. On to the photos;

First thing in the gate, I see a goat in sheep's clothing,

and got a birthday greeting from Iris and Rose, some of my favorite performers.

I came across some of the Girltourage taking photos around the Gardens,

    The Water Garden.

    And the Chapel.

I took in some traditional throwing of heavy objects,

And caught the Queens Highlanders in the parade.

    More to come....

    Highland Weekend part II

I attended a anniversary get-together for my friends Andrea and John,

and ran into Kilted Stormtrooper Guy! It's just not Highland weekend to me without Kilted Stormtrooper Guy....

I also ran into some pretty girls in sheep's clothing...

I And wasted my time getting beat in the "Bonny Knees" contest by a little kid, shirtless teenager, and girl in a mini kilt....

But I did run into another contestant who was sporting the Texas Bluebonnet Tartan.

    Next up, Kilt Dont's!

    Highland weekend Part III

with all the kilts on display, there were of course some sartorial lapses in judgement, I captured a few, My favorite one was three guys all wearing their shiny new Stillwater Irish Nationals backwards, who asked me if I was "sure about that" when I told them. Sadly, I thought I took a picture but it wasn't in my camera later.

Here's the no-pleat 'Braveheart Wrap' always see a ton of those.

The Mini Kilt, saw a few of them too,

Argyle dress socks with loafers, I'll give him points for the socks coordinating with the kilt..

costume kilt with stick on mohawk..

Not sure what to say about Macramé beard guy though..

so after all that I'll say Minikilt girl was a kilt do in my book

Re: Minikilt Girl--yes, definitely. Where is this RenFaire and when are the events like the weekend you took these pictures. A day in November that gets up to 75 would be nice to
visit when we are getting highs in the low 40's. Great fun pictures.

Another magical montage of photographic delight! You outdid yourself this time. Elegant gardens, colorful costumes, kaleidoscopic habiliments, and Mini kilt girl's two gorgeous knees. Thanks for posting them ... the pictures ... all of them.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet up while there. Amy and I started to check out things on our own for some shopping. Quite surprised as I think this Faire is a hell of a lot different than what we remember several years ago. Must have really missed a lot the last time. While shopping we met up with another kiltie and we got caught up with them until we headed home. I'm really glad you got so many nice shots as I forgot my camera when we left

We did find that pub with the awesome steak sandwich and some better than average fish and chips. Can't figure out why it wasn't more crowded. Got to admit that this Faire's is some of the best of any Faire I've been to though you have to be real careful about the free samples every where. I am a mead nut and I got served so many samples I had to start turning them down as I was feeling it

Amy had a blast as she hit her favorite vendor the Hat People. Amy and the owner are on a first name basis. The owner will even go into the back and pull stuff out of her "special" collection for Amy to try. Unknown to Amy there were several hats over in the custom/private collection that had been brought from the main store for her to try on so that I can get her one or two for Christmas . Worked like a charm and she will be getting a new fascinator for the Julep next year this Christmas. She also got two new ones for her collection, one of which was from the custom collection so she was really happy.

We really have to come back down with more time next year. One day isn't enough to shop and see shows. On top of that it took us 2.5 hours to get to our hotel room after the Faire closed. It was only about 35 miles away Next year we will come down on a Friday night, stay until 5 Saturday and come Sunday morning and head back to Dallas in the early afternoon.

I love your pictures of that place. Looks like my kind of fun.

Your lass looks FANTASTIC. Seriously, that is one of the nicest tartan/Faire outfits I have ever seen. LOVE IT, and please tell her so.
