BBC2 Scotland is to air a documentary this Friday (7 Nov 2012) at 9pm on the Romans in Scotland. Apparently we shall see a representation of a Caledonian prisoner in tartan trews from the early 3rd century. Just a reminder that the Celtic peoples were characterised as "braccati" contrary to the views of David Stuart and Walter Scott!

I would say Celtic peoples, for a fact, were trouser-wearing peoples. Caesar may even note this in his Gallic Wars, if I remember correctly. If not, surely Tacitus does.

Did Scott write about Celtic peoples from the 3rd Century? If so, I'd love to read that. I'm on Rob Roy, right now.
