Houston Kiltmakers has an App that is available for iPhone and iPad (free download from the App Store) that works relatively well (though the colors are somewhat limited and the thread count is hard to manipulate). It's handy when looking at different tartans on here....especially with discussions of related tartan designs and Ancient, Hunting, and other design variations. It would be cool if you could use the same App to experiment with pleating options.......

I really like this app, and the screenshots I've linked in my tartan topic are from it.
There are just a few bad points, as when you save a tartan on your iDevice, they ask you a name for it, but it won't appear anywhere... and you'll never get the threadcounts from saved tartans, so if you really like one of your trials, you'll have to note it yourself on a piece of paper...

Very well done! Especially for a first time out.

It is quite addictive. I really like ScotWeb's generator, where it's very fast to throw in colours and change relative widths, and the result has a satisfying clothlike appearance.

Here are a couple of my more recent ideas, first for a more attractive Cornish tartan

and with a design for a Fire Department Pipe Band

I think a good tartan should be something of a feast for the eye, having interesting areas that reward close inspection, and having areas of rest.
