I need some"jacket" advice for Burns night

Say, here's my question.

This Friday I'm going to my first Burns night. It's a black tie event, and while I DO have a Tux, I'd rather wear my Macgregor modern tartan kilt. My situation is that I don't have a prince Charlie jacket, or any other "highland jacket" to wear.

Question:
Would it be out of line to wear a regular sport coat with my kilt? Should pass on the kilt, and go in the tux? Or just pass on the sports coat, and wear my kilt (which is what I'd prefer to do) and a nice dress shirt and tie?

So far, every time I've been out "kilted" it's been solo, and I'm looking forward to being in a group of kilts wearers. A place where the "bifurcated' crowd is in the minority..LOL....

So....If you could, I'd sure appreciate your help in this matter.

Can you hire or borrow a PC or a black barathea, silver buttoned argyll? Failing that, wear the tux.

Unfortunately there's not any rental (for hire) places around here that have kilts or kilt outfits, and (while there certainly are others in the area)I don't know any other kilt wearers other than myself. As per your feed back, it looks like I should be leaning towards the tux.

If the event is officially described as black tie, then no. Wearing a kilt without a jacket would not be acceptable. Nor would wearing a regular sport coat with a kilt. You're pretty much stuck with the narrow sartorial options of black tie. If you can't find a kilt-friendly option, wear the tuxedo.
