    Russian actor in a kilt

This is from a Russian TV show. The actor, I believe, is working in Russia on a Sherlock Holmes–related production.

    Anyway... enjoy.

Interesting. I've seen belts over kilts, and belts over doublets. But I don't think I've ever seen a belt over the waistcoat.

It looks as if there may be a dirk if you look at his left side. There is something bulging out of the bottom of the coatee and it appears as though there may be two silver bands similar to the silver furniture on a dirk. That may explain the belt over the waistcoat.

Then again it may be a case of dress him in every piece the rental company sent and prop him in front of the scenery!

I really like the jacket / doublet. A little different than what we usually see. I don't think it's a dirk on his left side, just the light reflecting off the lining on the tashes. He would look well put together if the sporran was a little higher.

Is it just me or does the belt over the waistcoat make it look like the sporran is hanging too low? Brings up a point I've been wanting to ask. Is there a general rule of thumb on how low or how high the sporran should hang? I've seen some hanging so low that to my mind it looks a bit off.
