    Which sporran?

    OK,

So here is my current sporran collection minus a unique day sporran which is at the shoemaker being repaired.

I'm curious about everyone's opinion on which sporran to wear when.

Since even my leather sporran is black, I've been told it would do for evening attire, but I've always preferred to reserve such a plain sporran for day wear.

The second from the left used to be fully covered with seal fur and had six tassels. It was my best evening sporran for many years, but the fur dried out and cracked and started to fall apart. The tassels went missing etc... In order to save it, I trimmed the seal fur back to where it wasn't cracked and added some leather tassels. Would this now be considered a semi dress sporran? Is it too fancy for day wear? Is it elegant enough for evening wear? Thoughts?

The third is a black rabbit fur with silver coloured cantle. It's certainly meant for evening wear. I wish it was seal, but that's very hard to obtain now and I'm not a fan of most bovine sporrans I've seen. They seem too rough.

The final one is interesting. It's brown rabbit fur and has a fold over flap and minimal hardwear.

Which of these would you say is my best sporran for evening wear? Is the leather the only one that's appropriate for day wear or would you wear the seal or brown rabbit as well in the day? Let me know what you think!

I know the rabbit is for pure evening wear, but I guess I'm wondering if any of the others would serve the purpose, or, is there anywhere you would wear the brown rabbit or the seal with leather tassels. They are kind of in between, so I'm curious about where they should be worn.

I don't think you would have too many dissenters if you wore the brown rabbit fur to an evening function. Many wear full face fur sporrans as formal evening wear and it's not too dissimilar. The sealskin would be a semi-formal event. Perhaps not a black tie do, but a less formal evening event to which you would wear a suit but not a tuxedo. Although IMHO semi formals are neither one thing or another.
Black leather with tassles would be a day sporran, without tassles and a plain front with lots of shine, could be acceptable for evening wear. YMMV

Whereas I like the black fur sporran best for evening functions, the brownish fur would be fine too. The leather sporrans would work better for anything but evening events whether it's black or white tie.
