Newbie constructing a sherriffmuir type jacket

After a number of years surviving on shop bought Kilts, Jackets and equiptment, I decided to "Go off-piste" in constructing my own jacket.
I didn't want a Charlie or Argyle (got one) so that left a mess jacket style, so I looked and liked the style of the Sheriffmuir ( and seemed local since my family were Stirling/Trossachs)
Colour :Bottle green, not vevet, so barathea, so off to trawl the shops & market stalls : Succes!

Where to find a pattern? Nothing seems to exist( every pattern seemed to be out of stock or printed on bank-notes on e-bay). so my options seem to be adapt from other uses. I ended up with a Burda 2471 "Napoleon " as a basis.

The vest has been straightforward ( lengthen by 2": I'm 6'5" & long in the back)
So, now I'm cutting the "tails" and lenthening the pattern appropriately. Will update as I go along!

That does sound interesting. Don't forget to add a seam allowance. (as Burda patterns are known for being without them)

Can't wait to see a pic, or 20.

Welcome aboard X-Marks! It's lovely here.

I'll definitely be following your progress, as the Sheriffmuir is one of my favorite style of jackets.

And remember the general X-Marks rule...

I'm afraid you're behind the times. Any Burda pattern purchased in North America has had seam allowances included for some years now.

I believe that any produced for the European market will still be of the adding seam allowance type.

Just checked 2x patterns and they are "seam allowances included".
Assumed the problem was a N.A. problem, not a euro one.

Spoke too soon, Vest needed to be traighter accross at front so unpicked front and re-sewn <G>Vest-adjust.JPG
Diagrams attached (lengthened at cyan line. bottom & shoulders trimmed at red lines)

Looks a bit like the doublet I'm making.
    I blogged it here: http://pragmaticpizza.blogspot.com/2...-part-iii.html

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.
