How to dawn your Balmoral properly

I had taken a pic a few months back and posted it online & frend said that I wasn't wearing my Balmoral properly. As I normally wear a Flat Hat I thought he might be right.
Question, is there a particular way they must (should) be worn? And what about that little bit at the back, the ribbon thingy, what to do about that?

In fact there are a multitude of ways to wear(don) your balmoral and still be "correct". There are two basic foundation points though. One, the ribbons are worn at the centre of the back of the head and that should put the cockade(if there is one) in the right place for 2, the badge is worn about halfway between the left edge of your left eye and your left ear. After that, look at the pictures and see which style you like. As for the ribbons they are usually , but not always, tied in a bow and should you get fed up with them, just cut them off! Just remember that we are talking civilian attire here, so the shrunken, shaved, starched, ironed, severe military beret look is not the look that people generally go for.
