Hello from VA Beach, Va
Hello,
i am a new member and joined to get more info. I purchased my first kilt for my wedding last October and love it. Unfortunately (for my kilt) after teaching English to 8 graders this past year I have lost some weight so any info on getting my kilt tailored would be welcome.
Besides my pride do Scotland tartan (pictured) I own a sport kilt.
Cheers.

Hello and from the wooded highlands of The Big South Fork, north central Tennessee!
Congratulations on loosing weight, even if as the result (condolences?) of teaching 8th grade English. If you have not lost a whole lot of weight (more than 3 or four inches off the waist) the easiest thing is simply to move the buckles on the kilt. Actually, you can keep moving buckles pretty much forever but eventually there will be too much "wrap-around" for it to look proper. Then, you might have it taken in by a kilt maker. I had one of my favorite "tanks" both taken in at the waist and shortened. Cost me $60 but well worth it as a new kilt of similar quality would have cost me $450 or more.
Great to have you with us!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I love teaching middle school kids, I just didn't realize I would be running around so much. :-)
i'll give the buckles and straps a look. Thanks.
So far I have seen lots of good stuff. Cheers.

Greetings SJ and welcome to X Marks from just north of you in Delaware. Be careful, if you continue to teach 8th grade, you may continue to lose weight. Anyway, you will find all the information you will need about wearing the kilt, right here at XMTS.

Thanks again for the warm welcome. To be clear the 10 or so lbs. I dropped was needed. I only wish I did it before my wedding. No doubt I will get my kilt all fixed up with the help of you good gents. While the summer fast approaching it is a bit heavy so my lighter sport kilt will take me through the warmer months.
Nile I grew up in Ocean City, Md and did my undergrad at Salisbury. I'll be up there in October for the Seagull Century.
