North Berwick Highland Games

North Berwick Highland Games will take place on Saturday 10th August, 2013.
This is one of Scotland's younger games, having only started in 1996, but has proved to be a successful event as the organisers have a winning formula in a venue just twenty miles or half an hour's train ride from Edinburgh and a date which falls at Edinburgh Festival season and also is one week before the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, so the RSPBA competition at North Berwick is often used as a warm up by overseas bands who plan take part in the big contest the following weekend.
I am planning on being there this year and I know of at least one of our USA based members who is planning on attending.

I live just a few miles from North Berwick!

Unfortunately it's North Berwick, Maine and they're not especially known for their Highland Games

D'oh! I have to miss the Maine games this year so I can go to Glasgow. I really enjoy them.

There's a great video of the 2013 North Berwick Games now on youtube. Contains lots of still photos of pipe bands and heavy athletics but there is also some good action video from the caber tossing, and the background music is good.
