House of Cheviot - Katrine Line
Does anyone have any experience of the finer points of the House of Cheviot Katrine Line?
I think the line must now be discontinued but I have found a retailer selling some at a good price and was thinking of adding some to the stable.
I do generally enjoy "decent" hose: my base line for "decent" quality is the House of Cheviot Rannoch line. I do prefer spending that little bit extra for hand knit hose (like the almost unwearoutable offerings) but in this case I want some "not too fancy but relatively sophisticated" (i.e. not heavily patterned) hose for black tie events; I would prefer to spend my extra pennies on "day to day" hose that will see a lot more action! I do have some (Rannoch) hose that can be pressed into service but, as mentioned, I was considering adding these so that I have some more colour choices.
In short; is the Katrine line of comparable quality to the Rannoch line? Any observations, comments or experiences would be helpful.
Kind regards
Lime

Hmm, I think I put this in the wrong section; I meant to put it into "how to accessorise your kilt section"; I'm not quite sure how to change it.

It the retailer on line? I've been in the market for some new hose and would like to know where you can get HOC hose at a better price if possible.

I believe the Katrine hose were made and marketed as ladies' socks. Not that that means a man can't wear them; I sell men's socks to women all the time. But you'll have to take into account the size difference, and you may find the color selection a bit more feminine in character.
But as for quality, you'll find it the same as you have come to expect from House of Cheviot hose. These are made from the same merino wool blend as the majority of their hose, and I believe are 3 ply, which is what the Rannoch, Lewis, and most of their other kilt hose and country socks are.

Here is a whole listing of retailers who carry House of Cheviot in the USA, including a few forum advertisers.

The hose in the photo are Rannoch hose. I believe the web site has them misidentified. Or they just chose to call them something else. I noticed on their web site they are calling the Lewis hose "Awe hose." I did not see a listing on their site for Katrine hose, but they do have a listing for Rannoch, which they say is being updated.
In any case, the hose in the photograph you posted are the Rannoch style, in St. Andrews Blue color if the color in the photo is true.

Thank you Matt, I would be more than happy if they are Rannoch and for £24.00 including postage I certainly shall not complain. It does seem odd that they have mis-identified them as they do seem to stock the Rannoch line as well... in any case I shall see what I get; it is starting to feel a little like a lucky dip!

The HofC Lady Katrine Line may be viewed at ...

They come in four color combos. I use the Lilac when I'm cage fighting. Distracts the hell out of my opponent.

They don't seem to stock the Lady Katrine line, but I'll bet they will order some for you if you contact them. Ask for Tim.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Thank you for the responses. I did know about the Lady Katrine line but I don't think these particular hose are they as they appear to be quite different:

I believe the hose in question are from a discontinued line so assume at one point House of Cheviot also had a Katrine men's line.
The retailer is Ferris Lay Rose http://www.ferrislayrose.com/ who are a specialist hose retailer here in the UK. They are ostensibly for dancers but also want to bring a wider variety of pattern and colour to the general kilt wearing public (if there is such a thing!).
I've used them before. Mr Rose is extremely helpful and friendly... I also think his prices are a tad more competitive than other retailers. I am not sure that they send a great deal overseas but it is always worth an email.
I think I will risk the hose whether they are for ladies or not and I'll try and get round to popping up a review. I can always give them to my wife as welly socks if they are not suitable for me.
