    Let the truth be known

I bought the DVD version of Braveheart today and watched the feature where Mel goes thru the whole movie and comments on aspects of it.

Let me ask you......When the Scots are running across the moors in the mist with kilts flying everywhere, do you not feel the same when you don the kilt?

When "Wallace" stands on the hill looking over the glen, claymore in hand, in his fine earthy kilt, do you not feel the same when you don the kilt?

When he holds his chosen lassie in his arms and gives her a hug,
do you not feel the same when you don the kilt?

    Sure you do.

We may not be warriors on the battlefield, but the sense of pride, strength and heritage that we identify with when wearing a kilt is very real.
No other article of clothing can possibly affect the body and spirit that a kilt does!

Now that was rather poetic wasn't it! :P

    Graham,

You are so right! It is a kindred sprit to
the past. I truley felt it my in spirit the first time.
I saw kilts in action at the highland games and
heard the sounds of the bagpipes. It awakend something
deep within me. It still has that effect
    nearly 10 years later.

Just wearing the kilt does it for me. I find myself striding rather than simply walking and I find myself standing straighter and holding my head up as if I'm challenging the world. The kilt does have an effect on the spirit.

Whenever I see a drunken Kilter at the pubs... I feel prouder when I don the kilt.

When I see our bands onstage, blasting-out the incoherant lyrics to some traditional fighting song... I feel prouder to don the kilt.

Wherever I see a man starving for the taste of freedom... I'll be there...

    Ooooooops...

    Wrong movie.

Well, I dunno about all the high-minded stuff, but wearing a kilt has given me a profound respect for how cold a dog's nose is. Does that count toward poetic awakening?

I knew that would find some kindred spirits, well, except for Celt and his dogs' wet nose

I have been proud also to share on this forum and on my website pictures of kilting in Tasmania.
We are blessed to have near access (within an hours' drive in three directions) to mountains and countryside not unlike that of Scotland and Ireland (but with more trees).

So while there can be noting like the real experience on being in those celtic countries with their rich history and culture, I think Tasmania offers the next best thing.

so....enjoying that experience of being kilted in the highlands is something that is happily within my reach and experience.

    For that I am thankful.
    Just a thought.

I'm sure William Wallace wouldn't have felt quite the same had he been wearing lederhosen and suspenders.
