    Leather sporrN strap aghhhh help

    Hello all.

I am after a leather sporran strap I have found one at scotweb http://www.scotweb.co.uk/products/al...sporran-strap/

But this doesn't look like a normal sporran strap. With the chain trap you normally get the 2 ends and you hook them on. This one just looks like a belt. Am I buying the right thing here!!!???

    Thank you

This really doesn't belong in the "For Sale" section,

But yes, you'll find that many people like a one-piece leather strap instead of a sporran chain. This passes through the 'keeper' on the back of your sporran where the little d-strap normally rests (which is the bit the sporran chain clips to).

You just pull the d-strap out and thread your leather strap right through.

As a bonus you'll probably find that the strap is more comfortable, with less sporran bouncing.

Yes as Scott says it is the proper thing. I have one in black and brown from Scotweb, for the money it's a good piece of kit.

I also have a daywear sporran from Buy-a-kilt -- but the bit at the
back is a permanent part of the sporran - the part with the D rings
is not removable. For this reason I bought one of the leather straps
with clips from Wyvern Leatherworks-- nicely made - smooth rivets
and the clips are the ones that people here seem to refer to as
"lobster clips'. All in all, much gentler on the kilt fabric.

I too prefer the leather strap with the swivels and clips on the end as sold by Wyvern Leatherworks. They allow the sporran to easily pivot up when bending, seated etc. and ensures the the sporran hangs vertical when standing. If the straps are used with a sporran that has a tight loop in the back the sporran does not move easily (which some might like) and can hang forward at the top as the sporran can't rotate to vertical. If the loop on the back of the sporran is large enough these concerns are not as relevant. In addition, I like that I can keep the strap adjusted to the proper length and just unclip the strap at the sporran for putting on or removing. Pick up sporran with strap attached at one end, clip on the other end and away you go. No spinning the sporran or stap around to use the buckle each time. Not a big deal I'm sure, but just unnecessary when you have a better alternative in my opinion. Emphasis on MY opinion
