aye, Stewart Hunting in the modern colors. Very popular with pipe bands. No comment on age however.

Aye, Stewart Hunting (M). Knife pleated to Ketchup and Mustard (Alternating red and yellow stripe) in the style of The Canadian Scottish and other Regts.

The kilt may date anywhere from the 1950's to current. I have 35 of them in my shop for repair/re-condition. Any with moth holes go straight to the trash can.

The items you have there are a Hunting Stewart kilt, fitted for braces ('tis what the buttons are for)

It's possibly a military kilt (looking at the construction) although more likely a civilian kilt made to military spec. The only British Regiment to wear Hunting Stewart were the Royal Scots... but they wore trews. It also doesn't have the MoD characteristic green waistband which makes me think that although it looks military, it probably isn't. That's assuming it's British. There were other regiments outside UK that wore Hunting Stewart as a kilt.

    To name a few:
    The Pretoria Highlanders (South Africa)
    Calcutta Scottish (India)
    Bombay Volunteer Rifles (India)
    Shanghai Volunteer Corps (China)

You also have what appears to be a pipers / drummers plaid in the same tartan.

The Royal Scots Regimental pipers were granted the honour to wear the Royal Stewart tartan, bestowed by King George V to mark the 300th anniversary of the formation of the Regiment in 1933. Their drummers wore bear-skins, red tunics and black trousers. So it's not their band.

Either way, it's an old battered band kilt that was a bit big for the bloke who wore it so he improvised the use of braces.

No idea how old it is without a label.
