    Geoffrey Tailor

Has anyone had a kilt made by Geoffrey Tailor in Scotland? If so, what was the experience like and were you satisfied with your kilt? Just curious.

Excellent! I had a denim kilt of his which was well put together but I put on weight and it's too tight now It was an early 21st Century kilt, before Howie set up shop on his own.

Have a look at some of the kilts at http://www.geoffreykilts.co.uk/

A very well respected and much loved member of this forum, Hamish Bicknell, has had several of his 100+ kilts made by GT

That is a very good pointer as to satisfaction level.

I believe they are the gold standard of kilts and charge appropriately.

I got fitted at their Edinburgh store in 1999 and when I received my kilt I was pleased with the fit and construction. I has held up well over the years and this spring I ordered matching Duncan tartan for a new waistcoat and even though the kilt has faded a bit the new tartan was a nearly perfect match.

My father-in-law bought a beautiful Anderson from them over 20 years ago. Superior kilt and has held up extremely well.

I have been very satisfied with mine over the years. I have had my present kilt for almost ten years (this November) and my dad's older one (which he put on too much weight for) for 20 years and it was already 10 years old then.

    I have two.

I was very pleased with the first and had to send the second back for much correction. I do think that they have a cottage system going in that they will take the measurements and give them to the next maker on their list. I think they have a very good reputation but that all said, I would order from one of the makers we have here on Xmarks each and every time in the future. As good as or much better quality and service for a fair price, without the import hassle.

I was very pleased by my GT Kilt, bought by correspondance in the "heady" days before internet.

GT is a good tailor and a good weaver but are relatively expensive. I believe that it is possible today to get a similar quality (and service) elsewhere for cheaper.

I bought my Edzell from them, it is well made and has lasted 13 years with regular wear and still looks great!
