    Winter in a Kilt

I would like to extend the kilt season into winter. Here, in the nation's capital, it dips into the -20C's and sometimes into the -30C's. Has anyone braved this in a kilt?

    Suggestions?

    Casey

we had -16 C for our January kilts night, and we walked for several blocks between pubs. We were all in 4 yard Bear kilts, except for Bear who had a 6-yard prototype on. Cold, but still achievable.

I strongly reccomend http://www.whatpriceglory.comand their 22 oz. wool kilt to keep you nice and toasty all Winter round. I wear one and have no problems with cold.

I walked a block or so 2 years ago in -25c (wind chill -35c)and I'm glad it wasn't further than that. I guess I'm a bit of a woos that way. I'm past trying to make a point of wearing kilts in adverse conditions. Under those conditions I just wear trousers - ta heck with it. It's not a contest.

I have in fact in your back yard. I worked at the NAC doing opera and I was often in my kilt in the depths of an Ottawa winter!

    Robert,

That's good to know. What type of kilt did you wear?

I have my own kilt company "R"kilts. I would wear denim and wool kilts, what ever struck my fancy.
I now manufacture leather kilts and they are rather nice in the winter too.
    Cheers

Whilst our winters are quite mild compared to yours, I recently had occasion to spend 10 hours outside in temps between -5 and -10 with a biting wind to boot. The only bit of me that ended up being cold was a V on my neck/chest as I had a suit jacket on, the kilt did what it said on the tin and kept me nethers toasty.
It was a 6yrd wool one BTW I think about 12/13oz.
My main problem in a kilt is being too hot!!!

Rhino, with respect to 12/13 oz wool, is there a difference between wools as far as the warmth of them goes??
    are all wools created equal?

I'm by no means an expert but as I understand it, the heavier the cloth the warmer the wearer, ie 16oz is warmer than 13oz.
