Hello from Alabama.
Hello Everyone,
My name is Jason Lewis and I am from Alabama. My grandfather told me years ago that our ancestors came from Scotland and settled in what now is known as South Carolina, this was in the 1700s. About a year ago I decided to try and find out some more information about my family and found out that there is an island named the Isle of Lewis. Could this be where my ancestors left Scotland to travel to the new world? Then I find out that the name for the isle in Gaelic is Leòdhas and I decided to use that for part of my username.
Glad to be here,
Jason Leòdhas

Hello Jason, and welcome to X Marks from lower, slower, Delaware. My oldest daughter and her family live in Florance.
It's interesting to discover and learn about your heritage and it can be a lot of fun (& frustrating) to research your roots.
I'm glad you decided to join the kilted rabble and I look forward to your participation.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Jason: And we're glad you are.
Yes, the Isle of Lewis could very well be the home of your ancestors. As you may already know, Clan MacLeod of Lewis has one of the most recognized tartans, and is one of the more storied clans in history. If you haven't already, you can read about it at

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I spent a lot of time in SC. Loved it. I've always wanted to go to 'bama, how do you like it there as compared to SC (if you are familiar with the latter that is). I also have some Scottish history, but I don't have contact with relatives, so it's hard to get anywhere with the genealogy. Good luck on finding out more, that's pretty cool, man.
Have fun! -- Michael
