Piping by John D. Burgess on YouTube

One of the giants of 20th century piping is John D. Burgess. Check out his playing and technique on this YouTube video:

You can also note the fine duds he is wearing. You tweed fans should really like his jacket and how his ensemble goes together. I am told the gent seated is Seumas MacNeil, who helped to begin the College of Piping in Glasgow.

Indeed. He was always well turned out too! I absolutely love his jacket and sporran in this video.

Yes Burgess is well known for his opulent dress, but here he's rather restrained, with a lovely check tweed jacket, 18th century style dirk belt buckle, and reproduction/weathered kilt. But he's doing the thing long popular with pipers: wearing an Evening Dress sporran with Day Dress.

Interesting to see all the "open C" notes he's playing! If somebody played those in Juvenile competition the judge would come down on the kid like a ton of bricks... but if you're really good nobody cares.
