Gail and I were invited to celebrate St. Andrew's Nicht with the Albany St. Andrew's Society SAS) last night. The Society here has history, being formed in 1803.
We had drinks and appetizers on the 2nd floor of the SAS brownstone building in downtown Albany from 6-7, and we then formed a parade led by the Society's piper down the block to the Fort Orange Club for dinner. The Fort Orange Club is the premier private club in Albany. About 70 of us filled the largest of their many private dining rooms. There was then a formal program, with the procession of officers, the presentation of the haggis, dinner, presentation of an award, and then a speaker, author of "I Rose Like a Rocket: The Political Education of Theodore Roosevelt." The speaker was great - no chance of falling asleep!
Finally, new officers were installed, and we closed by interlocking hands and singing Auld Lang Syne.
This was my first time out in a black tie outfit. The last time I dressed like this was about 40 years ago when we were married, but without the kilt. I still need some other things for my dress-up-go-to-dinner kit, but I fit right in with the rest of the kilted crowd. More than 1/2 the men there were kilted too. My Bonnie Prince Charlie jacket and waistcoat, as well as my kilt are from USA Kilts. The pic here is at home just before we left.
