The package on the porch

Today was the day I calculated my new kilt would arrive. That kilt is a box pleated 5 yard Canadian Maple Leaf from the fine folks at USA Kilts. I had received my email stating it was being shipped on the 19th of this month so a weekend of expectation would hopefully be rewarded today. My day started as my Mondays usually do, up early feeding the cats making coffee and heading to work knowing I was on call today. Call only means that I might not get off at 3pm as I hoped I would. I work in a cardiac cath lab and our case load was light which gave me hope of leaving early. As the day went by we finished cases and I thought I was good to go... so much for thinking. Seems the cardiologist all wanted to save a couple of patients for after the 2pm time. Such is call. About 4pm I did escape and ran downtown to deliver a couple of bottles of wine and Irish whiskey to the people who helped me refinance my house. Then it was home with a bit of realistic temperment that the box wouldnt be on my porch. My hopes were not dashed as I saw the parcel sitting on the lawn chair on my porch. I crunched across the frozen ground that my yard had become thanks to an ice storm and sub freezing weather. My prayer flags hung like fragile pieces of glass and the bare tree limbs thick with ice. A true winter wonderland of sorts. I grabbed my box and mail and opened the door to my humble abode. Knowing the birds outside were hungry I put the box on my couch knowing full well I would have plenty of time to open and enjoy. Fed the birds and made sure the heat was up in my greenhouse and protecting my Texas cactus, rosemary and walking stick kale. As I walked back up my frozen drive the worst of worst happened, the pager went off. Calling the hospiltal I found one of our Drs had added another case on that I would have to come in and do. I thought better now than at 3am so I looked at the time and realized I had about 15 minutes before I had to go in. The 20 degree wind chilled me and I went straight to my coffee pot and poured the left over morning coffee in a mug and popped it into the microwave. Fed the cats a bit as they ran in and out of the cat door realizing it was too darn cold to be out.

Ok enough chat time to get to the point. I grabbed my box from USA Kilts and pulled the end open and slid my new kilt out of the box. From the moment I saw it I was in awe at the beauty of the Maple Leaf tartan. Unfolding the kilt I then got to appreciate the work done by Mac who had made my kilt. The lines were true, the box pleats straight and beautiful and to my surprise the straps were embossed with the Celtic knot desights and USA Kilt logo. What a beauty... what a kilt... and I had to grab a hanger and clip it in, hang it up and leave for work.... Jennifer was coming over to pick up a mixer to make soap so I hung it near the coffee table with a sign pointing to "new kilt".

It is now about 7:30 pm and Im back home. The note had "Cant wait to see you wearing it" so I know jennifer was impressed. Well Im still on pager and it is really not very good light conditions to do anything other than a couple of photos to prove Im not delerious and making this all up. Two quick photos for everyone to see the fantastic work Rocky's folks do. Tomorrow when there is some sun, and temps at the 5F range, Ill put the kilt on and get some photos.... pleat swish included.
