Angel's Share - A film by Ken Loach
Well, after reading about Angel's Share in the general media, then on XMarks, I was pretty excited to see it. Respected, interesting director, kilts, and whisky!
Being in the states, it has not been available, and I've been waiting and waiting for a theatrical release, but I happened to notice it finally came up on Netflix for streaming, so I watched it on Thursday evening, kilted with a dram in hand. An excellent movie! The kilt scenes where fun and fit the plot, the overall story of an avenue to a better life was great. Well told, nicely acted.
My one quibble was the movie had subtitles that you couldn't turn off in the stream. While some of the dialog of the Glaswegians was challenging, none of it seemed to need subtitles, to my ear. Hopefully this was just a Netflix thing.
Overall, I recommend the film, but as noted in most reviews, there are some language and mature themes around lower-class violence. No Monarch of the Glen here!

Sadly, it's not on Canadian Netflix. I really want to see this film.

I watched it on on Netflix Friday night. Unlike your self, I'd never heard of the movie, but knew what "angles share" meant. I kept hopping that the main character and his friends would start their own distillery, but (as you and I know) it took a different twist.
It was interesting when they were "kilted". Fun to see, and "overall" a pretty interesting movie. I wasn't bothered by the sub titles. While I didn't have any problem with their accents, I know that I have friends that can't understand Horus Rumpole (an old Bailey hack) either...LOL.

Before reading this thread a couple hours ago, the last time I heard the term Angels' Share was during a tour of the Makers' Mark distillery (as an Ambassador) last October. Sooo...I just finished watching the movie (via Netflix).
My review: Different, but interesting. It prompted me to pour a wee dram of Midleton, which I am thoroughly enjoying.
