Was this ever in style?

I've asked this before, but never posted a pic or had an answer. When I purchased my first civilian kilt outfit from a local member of the Scottish rite as a young teen, this black seal skin bow tie came with the rig. It makes no illusions about being self tie - how could it?

So my question, for those who remember the 1970s is, was this ever a popular trend? I've never worn it, but have kept it all of these years because it didn't take up much space.

I'd love some info. I googled them, and some furriers sell them and they aren't cheap, but I haven't seen a direct association with Highland attire as yet. Thoughts?

I am honestly flabbergasted. My Gast is in full Flabber.

It looks like something Hagrid would wear with his "horrible hairy suit".
That, or something a Chippendales dancer might wear.

I look forward to hearing if anyone ever thought this was a good idea with a kilt.

I lived through that period. Yes, some thimblethwaites might have worn such stuff, but to say it was "in style" would have been a real stretch in my neck of the woods.
