Friends,
I was able to visit with Chris today. Without going into all the details, Chris is nearing the end of
his journey. He is no longer able to communicate, but his eyes were bright and alert as they always
were. I told him that the XMarks community sends their prayers, good wishes, and smoke (thanks,
cousin Ron) and he definitely heard and understood the message.
Talking to the group of friends and family gathered there it was clear that Chris had fought the good
fight but was ready for this next chapter in his story. He is loved and cherished by so many people,
which comes as no surprise to anyone who has met him. He is a very special guy, and I will miss
him terribly. I once heard an elderly man speaking of the death of his mother many decades earlier.
He said that her passing "took the shine off of everything." As I write this I know exactly what he
meant.
Friends, please know that in this darkest of times he is being well cared for, is comfortable, and is at
peace.
His wishes were that on his passing his friends would gather to hoist a pint in his memory. At this
point the plan is that his memorial service will be on March 30. I will try to remember to post again
once the final plans are set so that the XMarks community will be able to take a moment, wherever
they are in this amazing world of ours, to honor Chris Barkley.
