Tartan identification
This tartan looked to me superficially, before a closer inspection, to be MacPherson. However, it doesn't appear to correspond to that. It's simply a matter of interest, nothing more, but with insufficient time to go through all the intricacies of a detailed tartan search I was wondering if our resident experts could identify it. Many thanks in advance.

It's close to, but not quite, Red Robertson. I can't seem to identify it.

Interesting, I've never seen this rewoven which is why you'll have had trouble identifying it David. It's Lumsden of Kintore, a tartan copied from a double plaid made at Boghead of Kintore in 1797 by Margaret Lumsden and so must have been a special weave. The cloth looks to be Lochcarron's or Dallgiesh's and I suspect was done as a special run by the Lumsden Association as I can't see anyone else knowing about it.
Some 25 years ago I saw and handled the original plaid which is embroidered at one end Made at Boghead of Kintore, Margaret Lumsden 1797. The old colours of this kilt differ markedly from the original shades which are typical of 18th century rural plaids in which the red is pinky, the blue very dark navy and the the green a mossy shade and which to my mind are far more pleasing. One of these days I hope to get back up to the area, examine the plaid fully and write it up in a paper.

Wow a chance to pick up a kilt in an extremely rare tartan. You never know what you'll find on ebay.
