New Shirt
Hello, X-Markers!
I recently got a new shirt. I probably wouldn't wear it kilted (tempting, though) but it has a neat pattern and a nice hand, not too rough, stirdy fabric.
Any thoughts on how you would wear it? I'm thinking a Saxon jacket and a striped tie (although I seldom wear a tie with a buttoned down collar as it can look odd to my eye).

Lovely shirt. I think it would go very well with a single coloured tie; if you're really brave, a knit tie would be a classic.

The kids at one of the schools where I was Learning Resource said they looked like a "sock."  They're wool and bumpy because they're literally knit. The end is usually square, not pointed. I've got them in several colours from when I used to wear ties more often, and they're awfully hard to find, so I really treasure them. Still wear them from time to time with tweeds or corduroy.

I believe the Scottish Tartans Museum sells them. Look there. I'm posting from my phone so providing a link is tedious. They were popular here in the U.S. in the 80s, which is when I got mine, but I believe they have been rather more stylish in the U.K. for longer. They really do have a classic look to them.
Edited to add: well, I just checked and don't see them there. Matt offered them a while back, but a lot has changed since he stepped out of the everyday operations. He has posted pics of him wearing some, though, if you can search for it here.

Mate, Charles Tyrwhitt does knitted ties in lots of colours. They are starting to come back into fashion on this side of the pond.
