The Edinburgh Wedding Video Highlights
Not sure where to post this. As we approach their First Anniversary (15 June) I thought I'd post the highlights video from my Daughter Lorna's and Neil's Wedding. Lots of mixed Highland attire on show from Traditional to Modern takes and folks who've worn the kilt all their lives and own their rig - to folks who relied on the advice of the rental shops. To say the least, it is an eclectic and interesting group.
Their first baby (first Grandchild) is due on 2 July! Thankfully, the videographer won't be present that day.

John,
Such a fantastic video! Extremely well done, and quite moving. Thank you for sharing this, my friend. What a glorious day indeed, and I'm quite sure you were (and obviously still are) a very, very proud father that day. Such a beautiful location and ceremony. A heartfelt congratulations to Lorna and Neil on their first wedding anniversary, as well as them expecting their first wee bairn!
P.S. - My wife Stephanie, who is an avid admirer of butterflies, will absoutely adore the wedding cake when I show her this video later this evening!
Best wishes and thank you again,

What a great video; thanks for sharing! I'm very happy to hear that all has gone well for the first year and that they are soon to be blessed with a baby. I wish them all the happiness they can handle for the rest of their days.

Just lovely. Thanks so much for sharing. I love the dance at the end although I'm not sure if someone was cutting onions in here or if I just got something caught in my eye...
What a marvellous occasion and you've got wonderful photos and a video to cherish the memory.

Absolutely a wonderful video, did bring a tear to my eye as I gave my daughter away the same day last year. Best wishes and a long and happy marriage to them.

Wow! Thanks for sharing that! EVERYTHING about that was absolutely beautiful!
I don't know what I'm going to do when my daughter gets married - I can't even keep it together watching your daughter!!! ;-)
Can I trouble you for a question? Two things I'm not familiar with at weddings - the books, and the little bucket they were drinking out of? Are those traditional in Scotland?

The following link explains the traditions of The Orkney Wedding Cog far better than I can. We have Orkney roots on both sides of the family, but Neil's Mum's links are more recent. This Bride's Cog was a gift from Neil's Mum & Dad and was custom made for Lorna & Neil's Wedding. I don't know exactly what the Family Recipe contains. Rona mixed it up herself. It is primarily a variety of strong spirits mixed with Ale and I think some fortified wines. Needless to say, it is very powerful stuff. It's a wonderful tradition and every one enjoyed the Cog, which was refilled many times throughout the evening.
Butterflies & Penguins were the theme of the Wedding. The Bride & Groom are both avid readers and writers. The Penguin Books were Wedding Favours. Each Guest was invited to take a book which was inscribed with details of the Wedding. Mine was the Classic John MacNab by John Buchan.
Thank you, one and all, for your most kind sentiments and best wishes for the Bride & Groom. I did wonder if this video would "find an audience" here on XMarks. Silly me.
Without doubt, gentlemen, next to the day Lorna was born (in Dallas, Texas, of all places, where I was working for American Airlines; Lorna still considers herself a Native Texan even though she only lived there for a few months) the day we "Give the Bride Away" is the most powerful and evocative days of a man's life. She is my only child and we've always been extremely close. I am doubly blessed as Neil is a wonderful man, husband and son-in-law. I could not ask for better. They are going to be wonderful parents.
The baby is a girl, btw. I am soooo... looking forward to meeting her on 2 July.

What an absolutely wonderful event. Thank you for sharing it with us. It stirred up more emotion than I would like to admit. Even more meaningful with the follow up news. May the couple, the families, and the newborn to come continue in the joy shown there.
