Need help from the Great Rabble

    Hello friends,
For some time now, I have been searching for a good tartan for my next kilt. I really want another Stewart tartan. It's my family name, although I do not yet know the region. I have a Royal Stewart modern and t's really bright and catches alot of attention. For my next kilt, I want something a bit more subdued, not as bright, and a bit darker. I was thinking Stewart hunting modern, but not 100% certain. I may also be interested in Stewart Black, or Stewart Navy. I've even seen there is a Stewart Blue (non-dress) out there.

Most of the sites I have seen are really helpful, but the ones I have visited do not show a person wearing the particular tartans that interest me (although, very beautiful). If anyone has a kilt with any of these tartans, would you be so kind to post a pic of you wearing it? It doesn't have to be a recent photo, of course. I simply just want a visual to help me decide. Seeing it on a person is alot different then deciding based on a square swatch.

I've tried to use the search feature on this site, but no luck. I'm hoping Stewarts are ubiquitous and not hard to find. Thanks for all your help. And I look forward to your comments and advice as well.

    Best regards,
    KC

Although not a requirement, the lads are a great kilt accessory.

    Madadh,
Thanks so much. You captured the swoosh nicely there. As for the lads, that is something else on my wish list--huge set of wolfhounds. Very cool.

Maybe Phil (Sailortats) will chime in. Hope so, he's a stewart and has a fine kilt in a nice not standard stewart set (called stewart old set if I remember correctly).

Here is Hunting Stewart Modern, from the Gilt Edged site gilt-edged.co.uk

What I think looks much nicer is Hunting Stewart Ancient as worn by Prince Charles

And my favourite Stewart tartan, Hunting Stewart Reproduction/Weathered, one of the most beautiful kilts of all

The Prince Charles Pipe Band from San Francisco has long worn the Black Stewart tartan. The pleats look great, pleated to the stripe. While this tartan is dark, it's certainly not muted, having brilliant scarlet and the high contrast between black and white etc

Now, there's a tartan that amounts to being Royal Stewart on a lovely royal blue background, called MacBeth. Here's Matt Newsome's blog about making a lovely kilt in that tartan

    http://kiltmaker.blogspot.com/2013/0...-progress.html

If the link doesn't work, here's the tartan that Matt started out with, fresh from the mill

There are also Royal Stewart variants with white, sky blue, navy blue, dark brown, light brown, and I don't know what else used as the background colour.

    Hey friend,
Thanks for the pics. Thanks to OC Richard as well. Overall, the response was better than I'd hoped. Each of these tartans are beautiful. The Stewart old sett is pretty cool. Unfortunately, it made my decision a bit harder. They are all so pretty. I guess I need 2 or 3 kilts now.

    Hi there,

Not one of the tartans aforementioned, but here is me wearing Stewart of Appin hunting ancient, admittedly not the best photo but will happily kilt up if you would like to see it
