Fashion Fail: the "Short Suit"
Link to article
I didn't want to believe this was real. I really, really thought this was a hoax of some sort. But apparently, it's a new fashion trend that some people are trying to foist upon the world. If the comments under the article are any indicator, though, this trend will not go anywhere. I hope not, anyway.
It's basically a regular suit, but with the trousers made into shorts. It is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Very unimaginative as a 'solution' to warm weather, and it completely destroys the look of a suit. The dress shoes worn without socks takes it one step further into the realm of the preposterous (apparently they are even modeling regular suits without any socks too ... do people really do this in the real world?). Someone please tell me this is a big joke!
But hey - there's a bright side. If people are really looking for a dressy trouser-free solution, maybe we could steer them towards the kilt world. Even though I'm not a huge fan of some of the modern-cut kilt jackets and styles, they still look a hundred times better than these short-suits when worn with a proper kilt and hose. Maybe we should be leading the trend by getting out in smart daywear in our kilts.

Actually... I've seen black dinner jackets with shorts - complete with the black satin stripe down the side.
Yuch!

They remind me of what they wear in Bermuda. The main difference is the lack of hose and the fact that it's a suit rather than a jacket and Bermuda shorts. It's not likely to make any inroads where I live, although the sockless suit look is sometimes seen here.

I worked in Bermuda for a while and they had suits with shorts, Bermuda length, but always with knee socks and dress shoes. It didn't look that strange. While I did wear Bermuda shorts to work, I never paired it with a jacket. However, the style was becoming less common.

Okay...don't pelt me here...
But...they are seen in my area. To was 114*F yesterday. I don't care for them, personally, but many men do wear these.
Then again, I live in the Casual Capital of the world (much to my chagrin--I prefer formality).

Call the fashion police. Shorts with short white socks and black trainers is never okay.

Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

If they would just make them out of tartan ...
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
