I piped this morning at 8:30 at a small commemoration ceremony for the fallen officers at our local RCMP detachment building. While chatting with officers before the ceremony, I learned that about 7,000 officers from the RCMP alone were in Moncton for the funeral and that more than 1,000 citizens of that city had offered to provide accommodation in their homes for the many thousands of police officers from forces across Canada and the U.S. arriving for the ceremony. A temporary communications centre had been set up to coordinate those offering and those requiring accommodation.
