Kilt Modesty Rant
I just what to point out a little observation I had yesterday about men in kilts. I thought it was a little funny. Now I realize that this may not be true around this country or even the world for that matter.
So let me think here how to put this cleanly. Men in general enjoy noticing women and a lot of men enjoy seeing things a little more exposed. OK, I won't go any further, because I think everyone gets what I am hinting at and I am not going to pretend I am not one of those men. It's just a males basic nature that goes into all kinds of opinions and moral beliefs. That said.........
I was at the Scottish Festival yesterday and I noticed a lot of men wearing shorts or speedo's under their kilts. Now let me make it clear I could care less if some man goes commando or wears undergarments under their kilt and that's is their preference, but to wear shorts or speedo's seems to me to be......1 pointless and 2 a bit of a double standard. Don't you think women would like some eye candy? If you're worried that someone might see your junk or underwear. don't you think you should learn to wear or move and sit in a kilt correctly. I mean come on...... men brag about their junk all the time! So, don't you think. That if they are that worried about their modesty. They would be a little more respectful towards a Woman's modesty? Ok I'm letting myself get carried away.
So, I can't help but to wonder about a couple of things. Is men wearing shorts under their kilts a common thing?
I am not sure how to pose my other questions and I am to new to this forum to know if this is the forum to have this discussion, but I just wanted to rant, lol.

I assume it is competitors at the games you're referring to, spinning to throw the hammer for example, where you saw all this displayed underwear. Otherwise you'd have to be walking around with a mirror on a stick...
I believe it's standard for competitors to wear undergarments, if not an actual rule or requirement when signing up for participation. Can someone who competes at events enlighten us?

No it was men wear short kilts or long shorts or sitting with their legs spread for the world to see.

Still could have been highland athletes. Wearing shorts is a requirement in any games I have been associated with. And many competitors also wear compression sleeves over their knees, so the effect can be of long shorts. And competitors may sit around when their class is not competing.

How do you know, how respectful I am, or for that matter any other man is?
I can remember "bragging about my junk", but in my defence I was only 14 at the time.
I have read your post twice now and for the life of me still don't understand it - Are you for or against underwear?
Who knows?
More to the point - Who cares?

Maybe you missed that I said, "Now I realize that this may not be true around this country or even the world for that matter." I also said,"Men in general."
Never did I say "Chas" so I would guess if you're going to be offended and feel accused by a general statement and what happens in a local area across the world from you I would suggest taking a good long look in the mirror.
and as I stated before I am new to kilts and still learning the community of kilt wearers.

It is quite common for pipe band members to wear their kilt over shorts. That way, they can wear their shorts to & from the contest without wrinkling their kilt. They can also remove the kilt if they want to move around 'incognito' (though most people know they're in a band 'cause of the the shirt/tie/hat combo).
Personally, I don't feel comfortable wearing a kilt without some sort of undergarment. (I have a slight allergic reaction to wearing wool).

being a fat guy, I prefer black briefs under my kilt, simply to avoid my flab chafing and the like.
on a side note, I have seen shorts hanging down below the underwear on punk kids and the like, but I don't think I have ever seen the underbritches hanging out 'below' the shorts.

I was referring to people actually walking around the Games with their kilt worn over shorts that are cut below the knee. Heaven forbid that one of those young mens' friends see them kilted! They'll usually be found squawking that their "dad made me [them] wear the kilt."
Usually the teens/young 20s crowd of boys who are entirely too self-conscious and abhor standing out.
I ALWAYS wear skivvies. Do what you like but in my book going regimental is just not done. Dark underpants only.
Edited at 2100 to add a point of clarification:
I never have and never will wear shorts under my kilt. When I do a thing I commit to it fully and completely. I wear my kilt proudly.

I had to read that post several times to understand what in the world the OP was getting at.
For one, it's really none of your business what someone does or doesn't wear under their kilt. For two, what the heck has eye candy got to do with anything? I'm sure you can understand that showing cleavage is not the same as showing your genitals and if a man who is unused to wearing a kilt, decides to wear something to preserve his modesty and from being reported to the police for indecent exposure, I would not castigate him in a public forum as you are doing.
And for three, why insult one of our members for commenting on your post when you didn't identify where you had seen this behaviour and then proceed to ask general questions regarding said behaviour?
