A new Aberdeenshire tartan unveiled to the public
Late last year (November), this thread described a designer's intent to create a new tartan for Aberdeenshire.
Today, I see the fruits of that labor have been revealed.

Too light in color for me. Perhaps a bit feminine too. I was hoping it was something I would like since my family originates from Aberdeenshire

That is my thinking also, very light colored and not bold at all. I have familiy from Aberdeen - in particular the University - don't see myself in that.

It reminds me, a bit, of a peach version of Lochcarron's Diana Memorial tartan. As a tartan with "dance" or "dress" palette potential, it might be nice. But it's not the kind of colors I'd wear "out and about."

The three females are grinning ear to ear, while the lad in the back looks dubious...

I noticed that, too. But tell me something. It appears the designer is holding the fabric over her shoulders as to reveal the underside of the fabric. Does it not look CONSIDERABLY darker underneath? It almost looks like it's not a woven fabric, so much as printed on the underside, but the unprinted side is "face up"?

Aside from the pupils and it was probably mainly female ones who would interest themselves in the project, it appears to have been entirely female driven, so to wind up with a feminine tartan should be no surprise.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Yes. I'd heard that all the boys were marched outside where they were lead in a 24hr marathon recitation of 'Kilts are for girls, kilts are for girls!'
Come on guys, why not keep your remarks civil? And do your homework. It took less than 15 seconds to find the explanation of how the design colours were found:

I know that not all tartans will be everyone's cup of tea, but to insult the designer on both a personal and artistic level and the children who lent a hand in the project is really not very gentleman-like behaviour.

Dixiecat, you are right, it's not gentleman-like behaviour to insult people for what they do with good intentions.
I was rather surprised when I saw the new tartan. That might have something to do with the fact, that we are on a(the) "Kilt forum" and expect a new district tartan to appeal to us as kiltwearers.
The fact that they sell the tartan as scarfs and by the metre as:
tells me, that even they think that the tartan has a more "feminin" look about it.
Anyway, I would at least expect to see a tie for the gentleman from Aberdeenshire.
Do I like the tartan? Not really, I think you could design something more pleasing to my eyes with the same colours.
On the other hand, after looking at Donna Wilson's website, I'm not surprised about the result, it is in line with the rest of her work. So they got what they asked for.

The Arizona tartan was mentioned. I can see some similarities. For some reason it reminds me of the Princess Diana Memorial Tartan, too.
