After 1st night out.

I got my kilt in the mail today and after try'n it on and ensuring a good fit I decided to take the family out for dinner. The wife and me decided to go to Outback Steak house. We packed the kids up and headed out, got to the restaurant and there was a 45 min wait.... we walked down the block to the bookstore, and hung out looking around. Over all I did not notice many people making googlie eyes or anything. The only problem I had was we were seated at a booth. Now usually I just sit-down and slide over...this time I make an attempt to do the same and AHHHH! My kilt is all beside me and I feel the vinyl very cold across my.... well you can imagine. This is a challenge I did not predict at all. Overall things went very well. Other then a few glances not much of an event at all.

For me the toughest places to sit wearing a kilt are couches and chairs that you really sink into. The knees up position they put you in calls for real preplanning.

You think the booth at a restaurant is bad? Wait until you have to sit on a COLD METAL FOLDING CHAIR... THAT'S somethinig to write about.

The problem is that the kilt is a little higher in the back than it is in the front because of the way the hips naturally tilt forward a bit. This gives you less material in the back. ALSO, when you bend at the waist, it pulls that much MORE material up the back of your legs. When you go to sit on a cold metal chair, you can get a BIG surprise if you don't properly execute "the sweep and sit."

Another place needing great care in sitting on would be one of those lightweight chairs with the crossed nylon web straps...if your gear gets between those...(shudder) it hurts to even think about it.
