I've Got a Need for Tweed!

Greetings,

I absolutely love tweed, there's no denying it. I love the look of it. I love the feel of it. I love the history of it. Thus, having such a passionate love affair with the versatile fabric, of which is so undeniably British, creates quite the dilemma (not that I'm complaining; it could be worse!) when deciding on which tweed to choose for my next kilt jacket and matching waistcoat. And yes, there will always be a "next." Just like its tartan counterpart, is one's need for tweed ever really satisfied? So, as I have done in times past, I've decided to seek the advice of the great rabble.

I'm quite firm on the choice of tartan for my next two kilts; however, I've still yet to decide on which tartan I will be selecting for kilt number one in my queue. No matter. That minor particularity is rather irrelevant at the moment, since visual examples of both tartans will be provided below. Also provided below, are the various tweed samples (lettered A-H) that I am most keen on. Keeping in mind the sett and colour scheme of the two separate tartans, and the overall pattern of each tweed, what are your sartorial preferences in regards to "pairing up" a certain tweed with each tartan shown?

There's obviously no right or wrong answer here. However, I will say that I'm definitely not looking to precisely match the tweed to the tartan and vice versa, rather, to compliment, or even contrast. Nor am I making any attempt to over think all of this. I'm simply curious of the great rabble's opinon(s) and why. As I stated previously, tweed is such a versatile fabric that can be worn in almost any social situation and environment. Whether it's a bold check, subtle windowpane, or a solid herringbone, tweed is as dynamic and beautiful as the place it was born.

*Note: There is an easier way to compare and contrast each tweed to the tartans presented. To do so, simply right-click on each image and save ("save as...") to your computer desktop. Then, you are free to open and drag each image as you see fit. I do this all the time when I want to see what colours and patterns will work, or perhaps not work with one another. Of course, I don't expect the rabble to necessarily do this. It's only a polite suggestion.

You have an itch that only tweed can scratch?

I prefer Tartan #2 for its subtler variants. I will hold off on recommending a tweed for the jacket because I like all of them too much myself.

Thanks, Jack. See, you have the need for tweed as well! Also, I will have two kilts made in each tartan shown. I'm not sure just yet which tartan I will be selecting for the first kilt.

Tweed a and g are my picks. G has the colours of the chattan in it that makes it flow without being "matchy matchy"

I too like tartan #2. As for the tweed I would C or F.

I also like tartan #2, but as a herringbone fan I like A and D.

I like Tweed A with Tartan #2 and Tweed E with Tartan #1.

Really like tartan 1 a lot. As far as the tweed they all look great, but I prefer the look of B and C.

Tweed B is a very strong contender. I really like this pattern and colour scheme, especially paired with the Clan Chattan tartan, but I think it would work well with the Marine Corps tartan as well. Many thanks to all of those who've commented thus far! Your opinions are quite helpful.

Kyle... both tartans are great looking, as are all the tweeds, but If I had to choose, it would be the Clan Chattan with tweed "D"., although tweed "E" is a close second. I think both D and E would compliment both tartans.
