Hello, a New Hampshire, USA newbie.
Just want to say how happy I am that I have found this site. I do not currently own any Kilts but I am extremely interested in clan tartan patterns, clan kilt patterns, period historical dress and Scot History. I actually landed here while searching a pattern which I believed is an ancient kilt pattern. I believe I have found it (Stewart muted dress blue), although more investigation will be done. I look forward to learning more about the patterns of Tartans and the history of the Kilt and enjoying the forums! Any tips on how to learn more about Tartans and Kilt history will be greatly appreciated! Thanks. p.s. does this post count towards my first 10?

Hello and welcome from Southern California. I will leave the majority of your questions for those members with far more expertise than my own. However, I do know that your introduction post does indeed count toward your 10.

Thank you. I have not yet attended the Games at Loon Mt. but did see the Southern New Hampshire Scottish Games & Celtic Festival; at Silver Ranch, in Jaffrey, NH in 2008.

Could you manage to post a picture of the Tartan you have? There is no Tartan listed among the Scottish Tartans Authority (STA) or the Scottish Register of Tartan (SRT) under the name "Stewart muted dress blue"
In general "Muted" is simply a term used by the weavers to create a softer version of an existing Tartan. It may not be a specific or different Tartan, just different colors.
"Dress" is a term that is generally or often used to mean a Tartan where one of the background colors is changed to White. This creates a lighter, more feminine Tartan for ladies dresses. It does not always mean more formal or dressy.
Stewart is one of those names with a huge number of Tartans. There can often be confusion between the spelling Stewart and Stuart. These are actually different branches of the same family. (There being no "W" in French")
So, the only sure way for us to help you is to see the Tartan.
