Rob Roys sporran stolen

What is the world coming to? These artefacts are irreplaceable and displayed for the enjoyment of everyone. What possible use would it be to the thief? If he or she tries to sell it, it will surely be spotted and the person for whom it was stolen would have to keep it out of sight. We can only hope that the police identify and apprehend the miscreant and restore the sporran to the display.

Ugh, that's most unfortunate. I have been to Abbotsford and have seen Scott's collection (that's on public display). Such a shameful act. I hope authorities eventually recover the sporran.

This theft is a disgrace to the name of Scotland. I sincerely hope that Police Scotland will track down the miscreant who stole it (not to forget the collector who commissioned the theft), and that the courts will deal severely with this deed.
The missing sporran is not only an item of apparel worn by a man who has become a national icon, but it also testifies to the continuity of sporran manufacture and style.

Odd that it looks nothing like the sporrans currently being marketed as "Rob Roy" style. Obviously, it was not used as the model for these latter.

WillowEstate , I agree whole heartedly . What possible use would this sporran be to the thief ? This act of theft is quite bizarre , to say the least .

I'm guessing this is an ill thought out attempt by someone to gain media attention for a whole different reason than just theft . ( given recent events )

for some people the temptation it just to much . It wont be some young scum bag selling it on for drugs. I bet it a middle-aged man who will covet it in his own house.
